High school years are those 4 memorable life-changing years in everyone’s life. Here at CBS, we work hard to ensure our high school students (Grades 9-12) have the best academic experience and career guidance to make sure they achieve their goals and succeed in higher education and life. Our students are challenged to think critically and creatively through the balanced curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
Curriculum evaluation is a continuous and ongoing process, where teachers continually assess student data to improve instruction. Students set their goals with their teachers at the end of each quarter and put the plan for the next steps as well. Students in grades 9 and 10 take the MAP test to assess student learning and growth in English, Math and Science.
Students learn how to effectively approach their work both individually and in teams. We ask students to actively engage in ideas and examine topics through multiple perspectives. We hold a belief that increased connection and collaboration in our school fosters a richer learning experience.
In High school, students can choose between the business stream and Science stream starting from Grade 11 based on their choices for what they want to study at the university.
The guidance counsellor works with students starting in Grade 9 on career choices. Our students are offered one subject related to career guidance every year where students can meet with professionals, share in mini projects and study about different careers. This is meant to give them the chance to make informed decisions for their future careers.
Guidance support is provided to students of Grades 8 to 12 by the Guidance Counselor at CBS.
The guidance counselor conducts an information session with students and parents regarding the importance of marks accumulating towards graduation from Grades 9-12 and regarding the completion of Community Service Hours.
• The guidance counselor familiarizes the students with the various career options they will have after graduation, such as engineering, medicine, business, banking, lab technicians, teaching...etc. As we have 99.9% Kuwaiti students, the rare majors listed in Kuwait university are mentioned to them ex: geography, physics...etc. (This list gets updated annually.
• Community Service completion requirement for the grade-level is followed up by the guidance counselor.
In this course taught in Semester-I from September to December by the guidance counselor, students can identify
• His/her abilities and skills
• What kind of learner he/she is (visual, auditory, kinesthetic)
• Which stream is suitable for him/her (Science or Business) depending on his grades and what he would like to be through counselling sessions.
Parents and students are given a detailed information session on the streams available for opting in Gr 11 and 12, by the guidance counselor. Students are given the choices and asked to submit their choice in the ‘Course Selection Form’ within a week in November of Grade 10
• In April, students who opt for Science will undergo a Science Entrance Assessment (in-house) conducted by the Science teacher. Only the students who pass the eligibility criteria, will be taken into the Science stream in Gr 11
• By first week of May, parents of the students who opted for Science but did not pass the Science Entrance Assessment are informed that their child will be moved to Business stream within the same month by the Guidance Counselor and the Principal
Community Service completion requirement for the grade-level is followed up by the guidance counselor

Standards - AERO Language Curriculum (KG, Gr 1-8, Gr 9-10, Gr 11-12 )
CBS has adopted the AERO Language Curriculum. This curriculum focuses on 4 main areas of language: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. The strength of the AERO common curriculum is two-fold: it lies in both its conciseness of content and concepts, and its broad application of these ideas, allowing more time to work on and master the content and skills needed for effective and efficient use of language.
Standards - AERO Common Core Math Standards
CBS has adopted the recently released AERO Common Core Math Standards. The Common Core State Standards provide clear and consistent learning goals to help prepare students for college, career, and life. Emphasis in the AERO Math framework is on the processes and proficiencies of longstanding importance in mathematics at all levels.
Standards - NGSS Standards
CBS uses the AERO Science Framework that is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This framework puts great emphasis on the proper scientific steps and procedures used in all areas of science, and it structures its lessons to constantly bring these skills to the forefront. Science is broken down into “domains,” those being Life Science, Earth and Space Science, and Physical Science, and Scientific Investigation. Each domain addresses both the knowledge and skills to understand the processes, content and scientific principles. In High School full-year courses in Biology and Chemistry are required for all students in Grades 9 and 10. Those students wishing to pursue deeper study in a branch of science may opt for elective courses in Chemistry, Physics and Biology offered in Grades 11 and 12.
Standards - AERO Common Core Social Studies Framework
CBS uses the AERO Common Core Social Studies Curriculum Framework revised in 2019. The focus on inquiry and questioning is key to learning, and by its nature, social studies promotes the use of questions throughout the learning process. These questions aid students in the exploration of the disciplines in relation to the standards and allow students to develop the habits of mind required of a social scientist.
Standards - BCIT Standards
CBS offers a number of full-year business-related courses, from introductory level to advanced level across Grades 10 to 12. The Business Department has adopted the standards and benchmarks of the BCIT (The Business, Computer, Accounting and Information Technology) Standards, developed in 2012, that describe what students should know and be able to do in the field of business education. Business education involves teaching students the fundamentals, theories, and processes of a business. By aligning our content and skills to these well-defined standards, CBS students receive a solid foundation in business fundamentals and accounting principles.

Standards - Ontario Physical Education Curriculum
Physical Education at CBS is tied into the KidFit program which begins in PreK and continues as a required course up through Grade 10. General movement exploration forms the bedrock of the Kindergarten and Elementary Physical Education curricula. Middle School builds on these fundamental skills and enhances team activities, game strategies, skills, and “lead-up” games based on major sports. Grades 9 and 10 work on honing the specific skills and strategies of major sports, as well as learning defensive tactics. For students in Grades 11 and 12, the Physical Education Department offers electives. From Kindergarten through High School, continual emphasis is placed on good sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation, and safe use of equipment, as well as on the social and emotional development needed to become a good teammate and a gracious competitor.
Standards - ISTE Standards (TechnoKids Curriculum)
The IT Curriculum is guided by the 2016 International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Students by TechnoKids (which is aligned to Common Core standards). TechnoKids Technology Projects integrates technology into the curriculum across subject areas such as language arts, mathematics, social studies, visual arts, or science. At CBS, technology is integrated into the English subjects for Kindergarten using iPads / tablets. General computer classes are mandatory for Grades 1 to 8 and 10. IT electives are offered for Grades 11 and 12 which allow students to focus on the computer skills of their interest such as programming and graphic design. Technology skills are also integrated into other subjects from Grade 6 to 12 through the iPad program.
Standards - Ontario Art (1-8, 9, 11-12)
